Accelerating Pilot Testing of Catalytic Low-Temperature Carbonization System in Malaysia – Utilizing Ball Wave’s High-Sensitivity Gas Analyzer “Sylph” –

PNH Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Niigata, Niigata; CEO: Masatsuna Ogi) has launched a new initiative utilizing Ball Wave Inc.’s high-sensitivity gas analyzer “Sylph” to further accelerate pilot testing of its catalytic low-temperature carbonization system in Malaysia.
This demonstration project is being carried out as part of a program adopted by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry under the “FY2023 Supplementary Budget: Future-Oriented Co-Creation Project for the Global South.”

The local pilot operations and data collection are being managed by PNH Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., while UPCYCLE Technologies Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Niigata, Niigata) is providing the carbonization system and technical support. The “Sylph” gas analyzer, developed by Ball Wave Inc. (Headquarters: Sendai, Miyagi), is temporarily loaned by UPCYCLE Technologies Co., Ltd. to PNH Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. to enable precise analysis and evaluation of gas components during the carbonization process.
Sylph is a micro gas chromatograph that incorporates Ball Wave’s proprietary Nano-Spring technology, achieving both extremely high sensitivity and rapid analysis. It enables real-time separation and quantitative analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and combustible gases generated during the carbonization process, allowing for detailed understanding of process behavior.

This advanced analytical capability is expected to contribute to optimizing carbonization conditions, improving reproducibility, and enhancing the precision of equipment control. By leveraging Sylph’s analysis and the data recorded by PNH Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., PNH Co., Ltd. aims to further advance its catalytic low-temperature carbonization technology. The ultimate goal is to establish a sustainable resource recycling model in Malaysia that balances waste-to-resource conversion with CO₂ emissions reduction.
